Halle Tony-Garnier, LDLC Arena, Eurexpo: a guided tour of the three Olympic venues of Lyon 2030

In February 2030, three Lyon venues will become the beating heart of Olympic ice sports. Three places Lyon residents know for their concerts, matches and trade fairs — and that our drivers serve all year round. A portrait of each, with what you need to know to get there.

Update as of 30 September 2026 : a official Alpes 2030 press release of 18 September 2026 confirms three existing Lyon sites to be adapted for the Games: hockey at Halle Tony Garnier and LDLC Arena; curling, figure skating and short-track at Eurexpo. The long track is planned for Heerenveen, not Lyon. Our Lyon and Alps 2030 feature presents all access routes; competition schedules, perimeters and drop-off points have yet to be specified by the organisers.

Halle Tony-Garnier: the veteran switches to hockey mode

This is the most historic of the three venues. Built in the early 20th century by the Lyon architect Tony Garnier as the great hall of the La Mouche cattle market, listed as a historic monument and then converted into a concert venue in the late 1980s, Halle Tony-Garnier now hosts the biggest tours — around 17,000 seats in its largest configurations. In 2030, its metal nave will become an Olympic rink for ice hockey, shared with LDLC Arena — two radically different atmospheres for the most popular tournament of the Winter Games.

In practical terms: the Halle is in Gerland, in the 7th arrondissement, served by tram and well connected to the centre. On big concert nights, the area fills up quickly — our regular passengers know this and book their return at the same time as the outward journey.

LDLC Arena: the youngest, already built for world hockey

Opened in late 2023 within OL Vallée in Décines-Charpieu, right next to Groupama Stadium, LDLC Arena is the most modern of the three: an indoor venue with 12,000 to 16,000 seats depending on the configuration, designed from the outset for top-level sport as well as concerts. In 2030, it will host the Olympic ice hockey tournament alongside Halle Tony-Garnier — having prepared by hosting, from 2028, the Ice Hockey World Championships, a full-scale rehearsal two years before the Games. The organising committee has also set up its headquarters in Décines, a short walk away.

Access: the T3 tram links Part-Dieu to the site, and the eastern Lyon area is within direct reach of the airport. By car, it all depends on the calendar — on an OL match night at the neighbouring stadium, journey times change completely. This is exactly the kind of variable a driver who makes this journey every week can anticipate.

Eurexpo: the giant, headquarters of the Games

With about 140,000 m² of covered space in Chassieu, Eurexpo is one of the largest exhibition centres in France — the only one of the three sites able to host several Olympic functions at once. In 2030, its halls will house curling, figure skating and short-track, as well as the Main Media Centre, where thousands of journalists from around the world will work. In March, it is the turn of the Paralympics, with para ice hockey and wheelchair curling in the Lyon ice hub.

We have been dropping exhibitors and visitors at Eurexpo every trade fair week for years: Sirha, Global Industrie, Pollutec… The site is vast, with many entrances, and leaving the car park after a late opening can take an hour. Chauffeur drop-off as close as possible to the right hall remains the quickest way in and out.

Getting there: what changes during a major event

  • Plan for perimeters : during very large events, the areas around venues are reorganised — filtered access, restricted parking, altered routes. A professional driver adapts the route and drop-off point in real time.
  • Think about the return from the outset : after a final or a concert, transport demand soars within minutes. Booking a round trip at a fixed price removes the problem.
  • Combine modes : arrive by high-speed train at Part-Dieu or by plane at Saint-Exupéry, then a chauffeur-driven car to the venue — the most reliable formula when timing is non-negotiable.

ONLY VTC serves Halle Tony-Garnier, LDLC Arena, Eurexpo and Groupama Stadium all year round, at a fixed price confirmed at booking. Book online or on 06 67 25 84 26.
