Lyon ↔ Geneva private-hire car: GVA airport, city centre, fixed price

About 150 km separate Lyon from Geneva via the A42 and then the A40 — allow 1 h 45 to 2 h 15 depending on the starting point and customs crossing. By private-hire car, the price is fixed in advance, tolls included: no meter running in the traffic jams on the Mont-Blanc bridge.

This journey is especially popular for Geneva airport (GVA), whose long-haul connections complement those of Saint-Exupéry, for Cornavin station and for the canton's international organisations. We provide it in both directions: from Lyon to Geneva and from Geneva to Lyon.

What you need to know for a cross-border journey

Bring a valid identity document: the border crossing (Bardonnex or Ferney-Voltaire depending on the route) may involve a check. Drop-off is possible on the French side (airport French sector) as well as the Swiss side (international sector, city centre, Palexpo). Specify your terminal or exact address when booking.

For a flight departing from Geneva, we apply the same logic as for Saint-Exupéry: the recommended departure time is calculated from your Lyon address, with a margin for A40 traffic and customs.

The table rows distinguish central Lyon → GVA airport, central Lyon → central Geneva and Saint-Exupéry → central Geneva: these are not the same departure or destination. The amounts shown are calculated for the conditions stated below the table; estimate your addresses and time for your own journey.

A driver who leaves from Lyon, not Geneva

For a departure from Lyon, pick-up takes place at your home, your hotel, Part-Dieu station or Saint-Exupéry, at the agreed time. Specify the address, the number of passengers and bags, and the relevant train or flight.

A common scenario: you arrive by high-speed train at Lyon Part-Dieu and continue to Geneva. Your driver tracks your train in real time and waits for you at the station — the connection is stress-free even in the event of a delay.

We also handle departures from the Ain: from Bourg-en-Bresse, the A40 runs directly to Geneva, without going back through Lyon.

Lyon → Geneva airport (GVA): French or international sector

Geneva airport has a feature unique in Europe: its French sector, directly accessible from French territory without going through Swiss customs. If your flight leaves from the French sector, specify this when booking — the drop-off route is not the same as for the main terminal. For the vast majority of flights (international sector), drop-off is on the Swiss side, at the Terminal 1 drop-off area.

We also provide a direct link betweenLyon-Saint-Exupéry airport and Geneva airport, for connections between the two hubs — a journey no direct train covers. From Saint-Exupéry, the route is shorter than from central Lyon (about 1 h 35 via the A42) and the fare is lower — see the price table above.

Central Lyon ↔ central Geneva: Cornavin, old town, Nations, Palexpo

The centre-to-centre journey is the most frequent request after the airport: pick-up at your Lyon address — Presqu'île, Part-Dieu, Confluence — and drop-off at Cornavin station, in the old town or on the right bank. No changes: you load your luggage in Lyon and collect it in Geneva.

For business appointments, we regularly drop off in the Nations district (UN, international organisations), at Palexpo for trade fairs and conferences, and in the banking district. If you book a round trip, the driver waits for you at the agreed time for the return.

Geneva → Lyon: the return direction

The service works in both directions. On arrival at GVA, your driver tracks your flight in real time and adjusts the pick-up if there is a delay; they wait for you in the arrivals area with a name sign. Drop-off in Lyon at the exact address: home, hotel, Part-Dieu station for a high-speed train or Saint-Exupéry airport for a connection.

What time should you leave Lyon for your flight from Geneva?

Allow 1 h 45 to 2 h 15 on the road depending on your address and A40 traffic, plus a margin for the border crossing. Add check-in: 2 hours before a Schengen flight, 3 hours before a long-haul flight. In practice, for a 10 a.m. flight, plan to leave Lyon between 5:45 and 6:15 a.m. We confirm the recommended departure time at booking, based on your exact address and the day of the week.

Very early departures are no problem: we drive 24/7 and booking the day before is enough in most cases.

Train or private-hire car between Lyon and Geneva?

The direct Lyon–Geneva train remains relevant when its times match yours. The private-hire car offers a door-to-door journey, with your luggage, at the agreed time. Compare available rail tickets with the quote for the vehicle suited to your group: no price advantage is automatic when travelling together.

To reach Geneva airport by train, you must change at Cornavin; the private-hire car drops you directly at the terminal. And in the event of a strike or tight schedules (first morning flight, late arrival), the private-hire car remains the only door-to-door option.

What your one-way price includes

The price confirmed for the booked journey includes A42 and A40 tolls, the Swiss vignette and the vehicle's empty return. This empty return is not a return journey for passengers: a round trip is booked as two rides or quoted with waiting time.

The price remains the one confirmed for the booked conditions, even in traffic jams. A change of destination, a stop or additional waiting must be agreed with the team; specify these needs before confirming.

Also planning the journey in your own car? Our guide to getting to Geneva without a vignette explains the routes and their constraints. Here, the private-hire vehicle's vignette is already included.

Sedan or van, one-way or round trip

In a Standard sedan, the journey suits up to 4 passengers with cabin bags and 3 suitcases in the boot. For a whole family, skis in winter or a business group, the Mercedes V-Class van (up to 7 passengers) is more comfortable over 2 hours on the road. Child seats are available on request at booking — they are mandatory for children under 10.

A same-day round trip with waiting on site is handled as chauffeur hire — often better value beyond 3 hours on site. Quote on request.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Lyon-Geneva price include tolls?

Yes. The price quoted at booking is all-inclusive: A42/A40 tolls, Swiss vignette and the vehicle's empty return included. No supplement is added at the end of the ride.

Can the price change because of traffic jams or during the ski season?

The price is locked for the journey, time and vehicle confirmed at booking. A traffic jam does not change it; prices offered before confirmation may differ depending on the conditions chosen. Any change to the journey or additional service must be agreed with the team.

Do I need special documents to cross the border?

A valid identity document (national ID card or passport) per passenger. The vehicle and driver comply with the requirements for driving in Switzerland, vignette included.

Can you drop me off directly at Geneva airport?

Yes, in the French or international sector depending on your flight, or at any address in the canton (city centre, Palexpo, international organisations). Specify the exact destination when booking.

Do you offer a same-day Lyon-Geneva round trip?

Yes, as chauffeur hire with waiting on site, or as two separate rides if your times are fixed. The chauffeur hire quote is often better value beyond 3 hours on site.

Do you also do the Geneva → Lyon journey?

Yes, in both directions. At Geneva airport, the driver tracks your flight in real time and waits for you in the arrivals area with a name sign. The price is fixed at booking, as for the outward journey.

How long before my flight from Geneva should I leave Lyon?

Allow for the drive (1 h 45 to 2 h 15), check-in (2 hours Schengen, 3 hours long-haul) and a customs margin: in practice, leave Lyon 4 to 4.5 hours before take-off. We confirm the exact time based on your address at booking.
